Oh joy... a puddle of oil!
Entry 2: Not the picture you want to see only a couple of days before your departure date! - Although you have every thing planned, inevitably something does not go according to plan... like that puddle of oil under my bike...
tappet cover seal replacement
My F800GS had its service last week - we're ready to roll! Then, on Monday, as I walk up to my bike, there it is... a small puddle of oil under my bike.. Oh horror! First thoughts are to ignore what you see.. the puddle wasn't that big anyway... ;-) Then slowly reality sets in - This might be a small puddle... but I'm about to start a 17000km journey - ignoring it could be fatal!
So you start tracing the path of the oil.. and it stops at the tappet cover... that damn tappet cover seal! I really don't have time for this now. But better deal with it here, then a couple of thousand km into our trip... Hop on the bike and arrive at the local BMW dealership. "Yes we've done a couple of these, seems to be a problem on the F800". "no worries, we'll have you sorted in no time!"
oops.. no stock! part is ex stock Germany!
Damn!
A couple of phone calls later, and we've found a dealer on the other side of the country that has one in stock... We ship it down so the work can commence the next day (today)...
Had a call late this afternoon. My F800GS is ready to be picked up - Great News!
